Iran, Saudi Arabia Can Develop Cooperation in Int’l Transport Corridors

Saudi Arabia has trade exchanges with the Russian Federation reaching about $1.6 billion and Iran’s route is one of the most appropriate routes for the transport of goods between the two countries.

As the largest exporter of crude oil in the world, Saudi Arabia has always depended on oil revenues in a way that half of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country is obtained from oil revenues. 

Now Saudi Arabia seeks to play a role in the international corridors.

Following intensive negotiations in March 2023, Iran and Saudi Arabia normalized their relations after seven years of hiatus and this can lead to the logistics cooperation between the two countries.

As trade consignments between the Commonwealth Independent States (CIS) and Saudi Arabia are transited via Iranian territory, the creation of an international transport corridor can bring about economic, security and social benefits for both Iran and Saudi Arabia and also can help strengthen sustainable cooperation between the two countries.

This transit cooperation can help economic development between the two countries and also can prevent the infiltration of countries such as the United States into the region.

Also, Iran and Saudi Arabia can play the role of transit hub for the regional countries and increase their logistics cooperation.
