Save the Children Urges Ceasefire As Gaza's Kids Suffer

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Save the Children emphasized the toll of the ongoing conflict, highlighting that the lack of a ceasefire would “cost thousands of lives”.

Expressing concern over the situation, the charity pointed out the distressing reality for Gaza's children amidst the absence of a complete ceasefire, terming it a recurring nightmare.

“How many lives have to be lost – from children, civilians, humanitarian staff – before the international community steps up and fulfils its legal, diplomatic and moral obligations to keep civilians safe from the clutches of conflict?” said Jason Lee, Save the Children country director in the occupied Palestinian territory.

“The international community must stop standing by while children’s rights continue to be egregiously violated. The cost of inaction is the destruction of children’s lives and robbing them of their futures,” Lee added.

Amidst the conflict, more than 15,000 people in Gaza have lost their lives, including over 6,000 children, due to Israeli bombardments.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has described the ongoing plight of Palestinians as “one of the darkest chapters” of their history.

Ahead of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Guterres reiterated his plea for a sustained ceasefire, emphasizing that recent attacks cannot justify widespread punishment inflicted on the Palestinian population.

He called for essential measures including “unrestricted access for lifesaving aid, the release of all hostages, the protection of civilians and an end to violations of international humanitarian law”.
