Iran, Russia Maritime Transport on Growth Track: PMO

The maritime transport situation between Iran and Russia has witnessed considerable growth, especially in recent months, the director general of logistics and transit affairs at Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization said, adding that the Iranian side has considered an eighty percent discount on the tariff of ro-ro ships for accelerating the transport of goods between the two countries.

Highlighting the maritime transit capacities between Iran and Russia, Khosro Saraei emphasized that maritime transport between the two countries has witnessed considerable growth in recent months using multimodal transportation.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Saraei pointed to visits by Russian delegations to Iran’s northern and southern ports and noted that the delegations, including one from the Rus Agro Company active in the field of grains, have conducted several visits to the Iranian ports since the beginning of the current year.

It is hoped that friendly ties between Tehran and Moscow will lead to an increased share of maritime transportation between the two countries, the director general emphasized.

He also referred to the establishment of joint multimodal transportation companies as one of the strategies for increasing the volume of transit and trade between the two countries and said Russian ports need to be dredged and offer quality maritime services to the Iranian vessels.

Roll-on/roll-off (RORO or ro-ro) ships are cargo ships designed to carry wheeled cargo, such as cars, motorcycles, trucks, semi-trailer trucks, buses and railroad cars, that are driven on and off the ship on their own wheels or using a platform vehicle.
