Palestine An Issue of Mutual Concern for Iran, Iraq
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Top Iranian and Iraqi military officials highlighted their respective countries’ backing for Palestine, saying the two neighbors share views about the crisis in Gaza.
In a meeting in Baghdad on Sunday, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri and Iraqi Defense Minister Thabet Muhammad Al-Abbasi talked about a range of issues.
Pointing to the common stances of the Iranian and Iraqi nations, governments and religious authorities about the major regional and international developments, the top Iranian commander said the two Muslim neighbors also share views about the Gaza war and Palestine.
General Baqeri also highlighted Iraq’s priority in the foreign and defense policies of Iran, saying the two countries need to promote security and defense cooperation given the regional conditions.
He pointed to Iran’s military advances in the tactical, strategic and technical spheres, saying the Iranian Armed Forces are prepared to share their knowledge, experiences and capabilities with Iraq.
The commander also expressed Iran’s readiness to stage bilateral or multilateral naval rescue and relief drills in the Persian Gulf.
For his part, General Abbasi said the Iraqi people, with all different political views, feel bound to stand with the Palestinian nation.
The Iraqi defense minister also praised Iran’s considerable progress in the defense industries.
In another meeting in Baghdad, the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces and his Iraqi counterpart weighed plans for a joint war game along the common border and the promotion of defense cooperation between the two neighbors.
