UN Envoy Refutes US, UK, Israeli Allegations against Iran

Iran’s UN envoy Saeed Iravani sent four separate letters to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and President of the UN Security Council José de la Gasca Lopezdominguez on Monday.

Rejecting the “baseless allegations and unwarranted references” that the Zionist regime’s representative has made against Iran in a letter dated November 13, Iravani said, “The Israeli regime sought to justify and cover up its ongoing violations of UNSCR 1559 (2004) and 1701 (2006), its genocidal aggression against the innocent people of Palestine in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and its disruptive, vicious, and terrorist actions in the region. Accordingly, its endeavors to shift blame onto Iran are entirely unfounded and lack any legal basis.”

“I also reject and condemn the unfounded allegations made against my country by the representatives of the Israeli regime during the Security Council open briefing on 29 November 2023, under the agenda item ‘The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question’ (S/PV.9489). Iran considers the Israeli regime’s dissemination of unfounded allegations nothing more than a desperate attempt to sidestep its accountability for its documented war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity committed in occupied Palestine,” he added.

In another letter, the Iranian ambassador said the representative of the Israeli regime has once again resorted to “falsehoods and disseminating misinformation to level unsubstantiated allegations against the Islamic Republic of Iran”.

“I would like to emphasize that the Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently adhered to the provisions of Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015) and remains steadfast in fulfilling its obligations under the Resolution. Accordingly, the allegations presented in the letters are entirely groundless and unequivocally rejected. It is ironic that Israel, an apartheid and occupying regime, consistently violates very basic and established norms and principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, and UN resolutions, yet accuses Iran of violating UNSC resolution 2231,” he stated.

“In light of the Israeli regime's past track record, it becomes evident that this regime has once again sought to manipulate and misuse the format of UNSC Resolution 2231 and the UN Secretary-General's report. This manipulation is a persistent effort to advance unfounded allegations against Iran, all driven by the regime's political objectives,” the envoy added.

In the third letter, Iravani strongly condemned the baseless accusations leveled by the representative of the United Kingdom against Iran during the UN Security Council open briefing held on November 29, under the agenda item "The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question".

“In his remarks at the meeting, Mr. Tariq Ahmad, the United Kingdom's Minister of State, while overlooking his own country's responsibility in the current situation in the Middle East and the UK’s destabilizing policies, attempted to shift blame onto the Islamic Republic of Iran. Undoubtedly, the United Kingdom has certainly played a pivotal role in the prolonged suffering and distress endured by the Palestinian people. The ominous roots of this plight can be traced back to the Balfour Declaration, signaling the commencement of nearly a century of hardship for the Palestinians. The UK's consistent and unwavering support for Israeli atrocities and genocidal aggression against the Palestinian people and regional countries markedly diminishes its moral authority to license judgment on the intentions and policies of others,” he stated.

In his final letter, Iravani firmly rejected the “continued unsubstantiated allegations” made against Iran by the US.

“In this regard, I would like to reiterate once again that the Islamic Republic of Iran has not been part of any acts or attacks against US military forces. Iran regards these unfounded allegations as a deliberate attempt by the United States, the occupying State, to justify and decriminalize its persistent criminal acts of aggression and serious violations of international law and the United Nations Charter within the Syrian Arab Republic and the region,” he stated.
