Iran’s Navy Chief in Baku to Boost Defense Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani has traveled to the Republic of Azerbaijan to discuss plans for the expansion of military cooperation between the two neighbors.

Heading a military delegation, the Iranian Navy commander arrived in Baku on Monday.

Rear Admiral Irani is expected to weigh plans for the promotion of military cooperation between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In September, Baku hosted a meeting of Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Military Commission.

Earlier in August, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri hailed the rising level of cooperation, interaction and ties between the armed forces of Iran Azerbaijan Republic in a telephone conversation with Azeri Defense Minister Colonel General Zakir Hasanov.

“We believe the armed forces can contribute to boosting friendship and fraternity between the two countries,” the Iranian top general said, stressing that peace and security along the common borders can only be achieved through cooperation and unity among neighboring countries and that the presence of aliens in the region would lead to tensions.
