Trade Ties between Iran, Russia on Growth Track: Astrakhan Governor

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The governor of the Astrakhan region in Russia said the economic activities between Tehran and Moscow are considerably developing, emphasizing that various districts in the Russian Federation are interested in expanding and deepening trade ties with the Islamic Republic.

Speaking in a business forum held between Iran’s Gilan province and Russia’s Astrakhan in the Astrakhan region, Igor Babushkin said Iran is an important trade and economic partner for Russia.

He added that most regions in Russia are expanding their trade-economic ties with Iran, which indicates the depth of friendly ties between the two countries.

The governor of Astrakhan pointed to the completion of the construction operation of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) and said Astrakhan and Gilan have established close relationships for years in the fields of trade, industry, logistics and agriculture.

The 50-percent increase in the transit of goods at Astrakhan ports shows the development of relations between the two sides, he said, and noted that 3.5 million tons of goods have been loaded and unloaded at ports of Astrakhan in the past 10 months, showing a 50 percent hike compared to the same period last year.

As many as 100 Iranian companies are active at Astrakhan ports, working in the fields of trade, industry and agriculture, Babushkin added.
