Iran's Golestan Aims for Maritime Sister-City Ties with Caspian Neighbors

Accompanying President Ebrahim Raisi during his provincial visit, Bazrpash, highlighted the significance of developing ports in the Northern Province and forging maritime sisterhood connections with the Caspian Sea's neighboring countries as key initiatives under President Raisi's administration, according to IRNA news agency.

Speaking to reporters, Bazrpash emphasized Golestan's distinguishing feature of sea access and highlighted the administration's agenda, focusing on port advancement and fostering maritime relationships with the five Caspian Sea littoral states.

Bazrpash stressed the imperative need for fortifying Golestan's port infrastructures, noting an acceleration in investments in the maritime sector after directives from the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, with a strategic emphasis on sea-oriented development.

Pointing to the strategic position of Golestan province along the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), Bazrpash underscored the province's unique potential, due to its proximity to the Republic of Turkmenistan.

According to Bazrpash Iran engaged in constructive negotiations with the neighboring Turkmenistan to set up the common border marketplaces and facilitate smooth transit access for Golestan province to Central Asian states

Highlighting Golestan's pivotal role in Iran's transit development, Bazrpash noted a substantial 30 percent surge in goods transit through the province during the first eight months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 to November 22, 2023) compared to the same period last year.
