Cessation of Gaza War to Guarantee Regional Security: Amirabdollahian
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Highlighting Iran’s efforts to protect maritime security in the Persian Gulf, the Sea of Oman and the Red Sea, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said an end to the Israeli onslaught on Gaza will guarantee security across the region.
In a telephone conversation on Monday, Amirabdollahian and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi talked about the latest developments in Palestine and continued crimes by the Zionist regime in Gaza and the West Bank.
"Despite the positive regional and international efforts to prevent the continuation and expansion of the war, we are still witnessing attempts by the Zionist regime to pursue its aggressive goals toward genocide, the persistence of the Gaza siege and the forced displacement of the people of Gaza and the West Bank," the top Iranian diplomat said.
He then referred to the international concerns over the security of the Red Sea, noting that Iran always insists on avoiding the expansion of war and the necessity of ensuring the safety of navigation in the Red Sea as well as the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean, but naturally, stopping the war against Gaza can guarantee the security of the region.
He also spoke about the presence of guests from 69 countries in the Tehran International Conference on Palestine, saying this was an important event in which all Muslim and even non-Muslim countries took a united and joint stance regarding the Zionist regime's crimes in Gaza and in defense of the rights of the Palestinian people.
Amirabdollahian underlined the need for regional countries to resolve regional issues and to protect collective stability and security in the region, hailing Jordan's efforts to this end and to alleviate the ordeal of the Palestinian people.
For his part, the Jordanian foreign minister referred to his country’s priorities regarding the ongoing developments in the region including the cessation of the military aggression against Gaza and paving the way for sending relief aid to the people there as well as countering the forced displacement of Gazans.
Safadi added that the Israeli regime continues its crimes in Gaza despite the efforts by the world countries to stop the crimes and this has worsened the humanitarian crisis.
