Iran Raps Israeli Accusations against UNRWA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry dismissed the “sinister” accusations that the Zionist regime has made against the United Nations relief agency for Palestinians as an attempt to justify the restrictions placed on the activities of humanitarian organizations in Gaza.

In a statement on Sunday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani condemned the Israeli regime’s accusation that some of the employees of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) have been involved in the October 7 attacks as “another sinister move” in the litany of the regime’s anti-human measures against the Palestinian nation.

The allegation has prompted at least 10 Western countries, including Germany, the UK, and the US, to withdraw or temporarily pause funding to the agency, a move the head of UNRWA has called “shocking”.

The Iranian spokesman said the accusation of UNRWA employees’ involvement in the Al-Aqsa Storm operation has been made with the purpose of justifying the Zionist regime’s restrictive measures against international humanitarian organizations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and acquitting Israel of the unprecedented and heinous crime of killing around 150 members of international institutions, such as UNRWA, during the past 113 days.

He also deplored the decision by the Western countries to suspend funding to UNRWA after the Israeli regime made up the excuse.

“Such a (Western) reaction is practically tantamount to agreeing with the claims made by a criminal regime that, according to a ruling issued by the International Court of Justice, has been accused of genocide of Palestinians and must be held accountable before this court and the world’s public opinion,” the Iranian spokesman added.

He also warned that putting pressures and restrictions on the activities of UNRWA or preventing the delivery of humanitarian aid to the people who are suffering from critical war conditions and are facing the threat of genocide indicates the declaration of trust in the story of a war criminal that is accused of genocidal operations.

The countries that have decided to suspend funding for UNRWA should instead have halted their arms deliveries to the Zionist regime and their political support for the criminal Zionist leaders, he added.

Iran calls on all freedom-seeking nations, particularly the Islamic countries, to stand against the brazen Israeli cruelty and make every effort to supply the Palestinian people’s needs in order to thwart the Israeli plot to forcibly displace the Palestinians and defeat the will of people in the Gaza Strip, the spokesman concluded.
