Electricity Generation of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Up 33-Fold after Islamic Revolution

Nasser Eskandari drew a comparison between the generation of electricity at thermal power plants in the country before and after the Islamic Revolution and said the current volume of annual energy production at the thermal power plants is 338 billion kilowatt/hours, recording a 33-fold growth compared to the time of the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

By generating 830 million megawatt/hours of electricity, the thermal power plants of the country have undertaken an important role in the supply of sustainable and secure electricity for the subscribers across the country, he said. 

In addition to constructing new power plant units in the country, the electricity generation capacity of existing thermal power plants has increased to 2,000 megawatts in cooperation with knowledge-based companies, he stated, Mehr news agency reported. 

Currently, 623 thermal power plant units generate 94 percent of the electricity required in the country, he said, adding that the annual energy generation of these power plant units has hit 338 billion kilowatt/hours, registering a 33-fold rise compared to that in 1979. 

Earlier, the chief executive officer of the Iran Power Plant Repairs Company (IPRC) said Iran is the forerunner in the Middle East region in the field of repairing thermal power plants.

Iran has no dependency on foreign countries for repairing thermal power plants, Masoud Moradi said, adding that it owes its success in the field to experienced and expert specialists.
