Food Self-Sufficiency A High Priority: Iran’s President
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi called for the employment of all domestic capacities to obviate the need for the import of food by prioritizing the production of basic food supplies.
The domestic capacities of Iran must be utilized maximally to make the country self-sufficient in food production, President Ebrahim Raisi said in a meeting of the Supreme Council of Food Health and Security in Tehran on Monday.
He noted that the indices of food security and improvement of foodstuff quality constitute major components of the country’s regional and international power.
Urging the Agriculture Ministry to supervise the cropping patterns by giving priority to the production of basic food supplies, the president said food security translates into the supply of healthy, high-quality, and low-cost food that would be easily accessible to all consumers.
President Raisi finally called for the engagement of domestic knowledge-based companies in the food supply chain and the employment of modern technologies to improve the public health.
