Friends Sympathize with Iran, Declare Public Mourning for Late President


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A number of regional and Asian countries declared days of public mourning in honor of late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash on May 19.

As messages of condolence have been pouring into Iran after the passing away of President Raisi and his entourage in the helicopter crash, a number of countries have announced days of public mourning in commemoration of the Iranian president.

The Ministry of External Affairs of India said the country will be observing public mourning on Tuesday, raise the Indian flag at half-mast, and cancel entertainment programs across the nation.

The government of Baghdad also declared a day of public mourning in Iraq.

Syria said it will be observing three days of public mourning and fly the Syrian flag in all embassies and diplomatic missions abroad at half-mast in solidarity with Iran.

Lebanon has also announced three days of public mourning.

Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif said in a post on his X account, “Pakistan had the pleasure of hosting President Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian on a historic visit, less than a month ago. They were good friends of Pakistan. Pakistan will observe a day of mourning and the flag will fly at half-mast as a mark of respect for President Raisi and his companions and in solidarity with Brotherly Iran.”
