Imam Reza Shrine Museums Dominate ICOM Rankings in Iran


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine’s museums have achieved an unprecedented feat by securing the top ranking in 11 out of 14 evaluation categories of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in Iran.

According to the Head of the Organization of Libraries , Museums, and Documents Seyyed Jalal Hosseini, this accomplishment marks an improvement in three additional categories compared to the previous year.

"Imam Reza shrine museums have secured the top ranking in a wide range of areas such as presentation, education, maintenance, and protection among other museums in Iran," explained Hosseini.

He added, "It also ranked second in the implementation of physical standards, visiting, collecting, etc."

Hosseini further noted that the shrine museums achieved the third position in activities for children and young adults, as well as for physically challenged visitors.

During a ceremony marking International Museum Day, approximately 833 private and public museums in Iran were evaluated, with heads of museums, UNESCO, and ICOM representatives in attendance.

The International Council of Museums boasts one of the largest portfolios of specialized publications, reports, and databases related to museums and their specializations, stored at the UNESCO-ICOM Museum Information Center.
