Algeria Embraces Iran’s Proposal for OIC Meeting on Gaza Crisis

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Algeria welcomed a proposal made by the caretaker foreign minister of Iran to hold an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to address the Israeli atrocities in Gaza and Rafah.

In a telephone conversation on Friday, Caretaker Foreign Minister of Iran Ali Baqeri and Algeria's Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf talked about the latest developments in Gaza and the Israeli regime’s crimes against Rafah.

Condemning the Zionist regime’s recent fatal barbaric attacks on the tents of Palestinian refugees in Rafah, the Iranian diplomat said the crimes have added another page to the dark record of the Israeli crimes.

Baqeri also hailed the Algerian government for its efforts and initiative to present a draft resolution at the UN Security Council on behalf of the Islamic countries to stop the Israeli onslaught on Gaza.

He suggested holding an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to address the Gaza crisis.

For his part, Attaf welcomed the Iranian diplomat’s proposal for an OIC emergency meeting.

Denouncing the Israeli attacks on Rafah, which have stopped the humanitarian aid deliveries into the Gaza Strip, Attaf highlighted Algeria’s efforts to support the Palestinian people and provide aid to the helpless residents of Gaza.

He also welcomed any collective and urgent initiative by the Islamic countries in order to achieve a ceasefire and alleviate the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza.

At least 36,284 Palestinians have been killed and 82,057 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza since October 7, 2023.
