TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran is the fourth country in the world that has managed to attain the advanced technology of manufacturing equipment for the treatment of cancer.

The sales manager of a domestic knowledge-based company developing the equipment said this, adding that negotiations have been made with countries like Syria, Africa and Iraq for exporting the linear accelerator which can help treat cancer.

Elyasi said a contract worth $20 million has been concluded with Uganda for exporting the device to the African country.

He noted that linear accelerator devices are among the advanced technologies used in the treatment of cancer using radiation and bombarding the cancerous tumor.

Only three countries in the world namely the US, the UK and Germany had the know-how for manufacturing this device, he said, adding that Iran is the fourth country that managed to develop the device to treat cancer, Mehr news agency reported.

The knowledge-based company managed to manufacture this linear accelerator device in five years thanks to the unsparing support of the Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology, Ministry of Health and Medical Education and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Elyasi emphasized.
