Iranian Wrestlers Win Three Medals at Budapest Ranking Series Day 1


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian freestyle wrestlers Abbas Ebrahimzadeh Savadkouhi, Adel Panahian and Shahdad Ali Khosravi won three medals in the final Ranking Series before the Olympics kicks off in Budapest on Thursday.

Ebrahimzadeh lost to Japanese wrestler Kotaro Kiyooka 12-8 in the final of 65kg and claimed a silver medal. The Republic of Azerbaijan’s Haji Aliyev claimed the bronze medal by beating Mexican Austin Klee Gomez 12-3.

Panahian also won a silver, losing to Otari Bagauri from Georgia 6-5 in the final bout of 79kg. Akhsarbek Gulaev from Slovakia defeated Algeria’s Chems Eddine Fetairia in the bronze medal match.

Shahdad Ali Khosravi also won a bronze medal in the 61kg.

Seven weight classes in Freestyle will be in action with top wrestlers in all the weight categories. The ranking, and ultimately the seeds for the Olympics will be determined after this Ranking Series.
