Araqchi Is Iran’s Prospective FM: Source

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian will likely pick Abbas Araqchi as his minister of foreign affairs, an informed source speculated.

The informed source told Tasnim on Wednesday that the advisers and task forces working on the selection of ministers at the office of President-Elect Pezeshkian have come to the conclusion that Araqchi is the most suitable option to run the Foreign Ministry.

Araqchi is the first prospective minister about whom the advisory task forces at the president-elect’s office have reached a consensus, the source added.

Sources have also confirmed that Araqchi has directly consulted and worked with Pezeshkian in the course of the president-elect’s talks and correspondence with the officials of the resistance groups and a number of regional heads of state in recent days.

Araqchi is a former deputy foreign minister who played a key role in the negotiations that resulted in the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the G5+1.
