Iran Condemns Israel’s Inhumane Attack on UN-Run School in Gaza, West’s Silence

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Foreign Ministry condemned Israel's recent attack on a UN-run school in Gaza, criticizing Western nations for their inaction and silence on the matter.

“The attack by the infanticide Zionist regime on a school run by UNRWA (the UN agency for Palestinian refugees) in the Gaza Strip has once again revealed the dark and hidden side of the claimant West to the entire world,” Foreign Ministry's spokesperson, Nasser Kanaani, said in a late Sunday post on the X social media platform.

Kanaani's comments followed an earlier incident on Sunday, when Israeli forces targeted a UNRWA school in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 people and injuries to 80 others.

The school was struck amidst Israel's ongoing systematic targeting of shelters, schools, and UNRWA facilities across the besieged territory in its ten-month genocidal Israeli war.

“A regime that started its disgraceful life with occupation, massacre, assassination, killing of women and children, and destruction of Palestinians’ homes cannot be expected to behave in a humane manner based on international norms, because it has been founded on crime,” said Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson.

Kanaani added, “However, the regrettable reality is the silence and inaction of Western and European governments that have a claim to (being advocates of) morality, law and human rights.”

Despite the scale of Israel’s inhumane actions, Kanaani noted that its Western supporters “are still deceiving the public opinion and playing with words and phrases.”

“The United States and some European governments that support the Zionist regime, along with the regime itself, are the main losers of the war on Gaza,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson said.

Kanaani concluded, “They have not only lost the war but also human morality and honor.”

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas also condemned the attack, describing it as “an extension of the ongoing war of extermination against our defenseless civilians … which is a blatant Zionist challenge to the international community, and a disregard of the UN demands for stopping the aggression against our people."

The Israeli war in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of 38,584 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and left 88,881 others injured.
