Occupiers to Regret Assassinating Haniyeh: Iran’s President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President Masoud Pezeshkian underlined Iran’s determination to protect its territorial integrity following the assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, warning the “terrorist occupiers” that they would regret killing the Palestinian figure.

In a post on his X account on Wednesday, the new Iranian president said the Islamic Republic will safeguard its territorial integrity, dignity, honor, and glory.

“Iran will… make the terrorist occupiers regret taking the cowardly measure” against Haniyeh, Pezeshkian said.

He also paid tribute to the late Hamas chief as the brave commander of the Palestinian resistance.

“Yesterday, I lifted his (Haniyeh’s) victorious hand, and today I should hold his body on my shoulders in a funeral,” the new Iranian president said, pointing to Haniyeh’s participation in his swearing-in ceremony at the Iranian Parliament on July 30.

Pezeshkian stated that the martyrdom of Haniyeh will strengthen the bonds between Iran and Palestine, stressing that the path to resistance and defending the oppressed people will be followed more strongly than ever.

The Hamas chief was assassinated in a special residence in northern Tehran after being hit by an aerial projectile in the early hours of Wednesday.

His funeral will be held in Tehran.
