Unity of Regional Countries to Lay Foundation for Spread of Peace: Iranian President
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that unity and amity among regional countries will lay the foundation for the spread of peace and security in the region.
He made the remarks in his meeting with Head of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq Nechirvan Barzani, who has visited Iran to participate in the inauguration ceremony of Iran's new president.
Pezeshkian emphasized that cooperation and collaboration among regional countries will provide suitable ground for the spread of peace.
He thanked the Iraqi people and residents of the Iraqi Kurdistan region for their hospitality and compassion toward Iranian pilgrims during the Arbaeen ceremonies.
While the people of regional countries share cultural and historical commonalities, ill-wishers and enemies make their utmost effort to sow seeds of discord and division among the countries of the region to materialize their malicious goals, the Iranian president stated.
Pezeshkian emphasized the need for strengthening interactions between Iranian and Iraqi nations and also the people of the Iraqi Kurdistan region.
The president also pointed to Israel’s cowardly assassination of Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh and stressed that the act of terrorism would not go unanswered but they would pay a heavy price for their heinous move.
The president of the Iraqi Kurdistan region, for his part, condoled the martyrdom of the Hamas chief and said that sowing seeds of discord among countries of the region is the main goal of the Zionist regime in assassinating the Haniyeh.
Iran and the Iraqi Kurdistan region have high capacities to promote their ties in all fields, Barzani said elsewhere in his remarks.
