Iran Reserves Right to Respond to Israel’s Act of Terror: Acting FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s caretaker Foreign Minister Ali Baqeri condemned Israel's assassination of Palestinian resistance leader Ismail Haniyeh and affirmed Tehran’s right to respond, calling the hateful criminal act a violation of international law and a threat to peace and security.

"The Zionist regime’s cowardly assassination of the proud leader of the Palestinian resistance, Ismail Haniyeh, the long-time friend of Quds martyr General Qassem Soleimani, will make the Palestinian people, the resistance heroes, the Muslim world and all freedom-loving people more determined to press ahead on the honorable path of the struggle against occupation and genocide," Baqeri stated in a post on X.

The statement emphasized that Martyr Haniyeh, as a leader of the Palestinian people and their legitimate struggle for self-determination, was an official guest of the Iranian government during the inauguration of Iran’s new president.

The minister added that the assassination was “the terrorist act of the terrorist mafia ruling the occupied Palestinian land” and is a gross violation of international law, the United Nations Charter, and a breach of the Islamic Republic of Iran's national security and territorial integrity.

Iran strongly condemns this hateful criminal act in the strongest possible terms and reaffirms its right to respond appropriately, he said.

Baqeri called on the UN Security Council to address the threat posed by the continued terrorist actions of the occupying Israeli regime to international peace and security.
