Ayatollah Khamenei Leads Funeral Prayers for Assassinated Hamas Leader Haniyeh

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei led funeral prayers for Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh and his security guard, Wasim Abu Shaaban, in Tehran on Thursday.

Ayatollah Khamenei paid homage to the assassinated Hamas chief and his bodyguard during a ceremony at Tehran University on Thursday.

Massive crowds of Iranian mourners participated in the funeral procession.

Haniyeh, who was in Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iran's newly-elected President Masoud Pezeshkian, alongside other Axis of Resistance leaders, was martyred along with his bodyguard, in an attack early on Wednesday.

Details of the assassination plot remain unknown, but preliminary investigations suggest the involvement of the Israeli regime, with approval from the Biden administration.

On Wednesday, Ayatollah Khamenei warned the Israeli regime of a "harsh response" for Haniyeh's assassination, calling it the Islamic Republic's duty to avenge the Palestinian resistance leader's blood.

“The criminal and terrorist Zionist regime martyred our dear guest in our homeland and left us bereaved, but it also set the ground for a harsh punishment for itself,” the Leader said.
