Iran Calls for Emergency OIC Meeting over Israeli Assassination of Palestinian Leader

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s caretaker Foreign Minister urged Islamic countries to respond to the martyrdom of a prominent Palestinian leader, calling for an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at the foreign ministers' level.

Ali Baqeri, in a telephone conversation with the Saudi and Qatari foreign ministers, discussed the criminal act by the Israeli regime in killing Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas's political bureau, who was in Tehran as a guest.

In a conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Thursday, Baqeri expressed gratitude to the Saudi delegation for attending the 14th presidential inauguration ceremony in Tehran.

He stated that the Zionist regime's atrocities have seriously endangered regional stability and security by crossing red lines and committing the terrorist act against Haniyeh and violating Iran's national security.

He emphasized that Iran will exercise its legitimate right to take decisive action against Israel, ensuring that the occupying regime's crimes are met with lasting regret.

Baqeri underscored the need for an urgent OIC meeting to address Haniyeh's assassination and the clear violation of Iran's national security.

The Saudi foreign minister condemned Haniyeh's assassination and the violation of Iran's territorial integrity by the Zionist regime.

He emphasized the importance of reducing tensions while expressing Saudi Arabia's support for an OIC meeting to address Haniyeh's martyrdom.

In a separate conversation, Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani conveyed his condolences to the Islamic Ummah over Haniyeh's assassination.

He stated that the Zionist regime's actions represent a criminal act against the Islamic Ummah, regional countries, the Palestinian people, and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Baqeri, for his part, said that Haniyeh was an official guest of Iran, along with representatives from over 80 countries at the presidential inauguration, and that the Zionist regime's actions violated international law and endangered regional peace and security.

He reiterated that Iran has the legitimate right to retaliate against the Zionist regime's blatant crime and will steadfastly defend its national security and territorial integrity.

Baqeri called for Islamic countries to react to the assassination of the prominent Palestinian leader and the violation of Iran's national security.

He stressed the necessity of holding an emergency OIC meeting at the foreign ministers' level to condemn the occupying regime's heinous act and address its terrorist aggression as soon as possible.

"This heinous act must be condemned by all countries," Baqeri added.

The Qatari foreign minister expressed his condolences over Haniyeh's assassination in Tehran and supported holding an extraordinary OIC meeting to condemn the Zionist regime's criminal actions.

"The Zionist regime knows no boundaries in carrying out its criminal acts," he added.
