Egypt Backs Iran's Call for OIC Meeting on Haniyeh Assassination by Israel

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Ahmed Mohamed Abdel Ati voiced support for Iran’s call for an emergency OIC meeting to address the Israeli assassination of Palestinian leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

Abdel Ati and Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Baqeri held a telephone conversation on Thursday to discuss the recent assassination of Haniyeh by the Israeli regime.

During the call, Baqeri emphasized the necessity for regional countries to stand against Israel’s violation of Iran’s territorial integrity through the assassination of Haniyeh, a senior figure and official guest of the Islamic Republic.

He reiterated that Iran would not forfeit its right to retaliate against the Zionist regime for the assassination.

The acting minister also called for an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to condemn and confront Israel’s criminal acts.

Abdel Ati expressed gratitude to Iran for hosting him during a presidential inauguration ceremony in Tehran earlier this week and confirmed that Egypt had officially condemned Israel’s assassination of the Hamas politburo chief and his bodyguard in Tehran.

He also supported Iran’s initiative to convene an OIC emergency meeting to address Haniyeh’s assassination and Israel’s continued acts of terrorism in the region.
