Jeddah to Host Iran-Initiated OIC Meeting on Haniyeh Assassination

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Executive Committee will be held in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah today at Iran’s suggestion to discuss the Israeli assassination of the Hamas chief on Iranian soil.

Caretaker Foreign Minister of Iran Ali Baqeri left Tehran for Jeddah on Wednesday to take part in the OIC meeting at the level of foreign ministers.

The extraordinary session is going to discuss the Zionist regime’s atrocities in Gaza and the Israeli assassination of the head of political bureaus of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, that violated Iran’s national sovereignty and security.

The OIC ministers have gathered in Saudi Arabia following intensive diplomatic efforts by Iran and the caretaker minister’s multiple contacts with the OIC secretary-general and member states.

Haniyeh, who was in Tehran to attend the new Iranian president’s swearing-in ceremony, was martyred in an Israeli operation in the early hours of July 31.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has warned the Israeli regime of a "harsh response" for Haniyeh's assassination, calling it the Islamic Republic's duty to avenge the Palestinian resistance leader's blood.
