Iran Raps EU3’s ‘Insolent’ Call for Inaction against Israel

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman hit back at the European troika for their insolent request for Iran’s muted reaction to the Zionist regime for the assassination of the Hamas chief in Tehran, advising the EU3 to rein in the Israeli genocidal crimes in Gaza.

In a statement on Tuesday, Kanaani rejected a joint statement from the UK, France and Germany which has called on Iran to refrain from military action against the Israeli regime in retaliation for the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.

“The leaders of the three European countries have released the statement while the (Israeli) regime continues to commit all kinds of international crimes, including genocide and war crimes, against the defenseless Palestinian nation in the shadow of indifference of the Western states and sponsors of the Israeli regime,” the spokesman said, adding that impunity of the Zionist officials has encouraged Israel to commit the most heinous international crimes.

Kanaani also expressed surprise that the Western governments, including the European troika, have failed to take any practical measure to counter the Israeli crimes.

He also refuted the joint statement for refusing to object to the Israeli regime’s crimes while it has insolently asked Iran to refrain from punitive and deterrent action against the Zionist regime which has violated Iran’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

He said the EU3’s request lacks political logic, runs counter to the principles of international law, is an excessive demand, and amounts to overt and practical support for the source of terrorism in the region as well as a reward for those ordering and perpetrating genocide, war crimes, terrorism and crimes against humanity.

Iran is determined to resolutely safeguard its national sovereignty and security, contribute to regional stability, and create deterrence against the root cause of insecurity and terrorism in the region, the spokesman said, stressing that Iran will never ask for permission from anybody to exercise its rights.

Haniyeh, who was in Tehran to attend the new Iranian president’s swearing-in ceremony, was martyred in an Israeli operation in the early hours of July 31.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has warned the Israeli regime of a "harsh response" for Haniyeh's assassination, calling it the Islamic Republic's duty to avenge the Palestinian resistance leader's blood.
