Iran Raps Israeli Plan to Build Synagogue on Al-Aqsa Compound

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman denounced the outrageous comments by a far-right Israeli minister about building a Jewish synagogue at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem.

“The cabinet of the criminal Zionist regime is seeking to implement its sinister plans regarding the Al-Aqsa Mosque, to the extent that it shamelessly declares its evil intention to build a synagogue inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” Nasser Kanaani said in a post on his X account on Tuesday.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns such statements and plans, warning against any violation of the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and any new Zionist adventurism that crosses the red lines of the Islamic community,” he added.

“In light of the awakening of pure human consciences and the global hatred for the crimes of the Zionists, today, Muslims and freedom-seekers around the world are unanimously voicing their support for Palestine and the Al-Aqsa Mosque and calling for the prosecution of Zionist criminals,” Kanaani stated.

His comments came after Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir ignored the Zionist regime’s longstanding ban on Jews praying at the site, saying that if it were possible, he would build a synagogue at the Al-Aqsa compound, known to Jews as the Temple Mount.

The Al-Aqsa compound is Islam’s third holiest site and a symbol of Palestinian identity. It is also considered by Jews to be the site of the First and Second Temples – the latter destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD.
