Iranian President Celebrate Zahra Rahimi's Silver Medal at Paris Paralympics

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian President congratulated Zahra Rahimi, the youngest member of the Iranian delegation, for securing a silver medal in Para-taekwondo at the Paris Paralympics.

President Pezeshkian expressed his pride in Rahimi's achievement through a social media post, highlighting her success as a remarkable accomplishment in her first Paralympic appearance.

"My dear Zahra, winning the silver medal in your first Paralympic experience as the youngest member of our delegation is a source of pride. You have learned the path to success; continue this way. Wishing you happiness and victory," wrote Pezeshkian.

The Ministry of Sports and Youth also issued a statement congratulating Rahimi on her achievement.

"We thank God for the first medal of Iran’s sports delegation at the Paris Paralympics, achieved by Zahra Rahimi, a courageous and determined young athlete. Her silver medal in Taekwondo has brought joy to the sports-loving nation of Iran," the statement read.

The Ministry praised Rahimi's victory over opponents from China, Brazil, and Georgia, which led her to the final. Although she fought valiantly in the final against Sornjav Ulambayar of Mongolia, Rahimi lost 5-2 and secured the silver medal.

Following the match, Rahimi expressed mixed feelings about her performance.

"I’m very happy to have won the first medal for our delegation, but I would have been much happier if it was gold," she said.

Acknowledging the tough competition, Rahimi noted that the Mongolian athlete was more experienced. She remains determined to return stronger for the next Olympics.

Despite her disappointment, Rahimi promised to improve in future competitions, emphasizing her resilience despite a knee injury sustained before the final match.
