Envoy Summoned over UK Sanctions on Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The chargé d'affaires of the UK to Tehran was called in by the Iranian Foreign Ministry in protest at the fresh sanctions the British government has imposed on three Iranian individuals and one entity.

Following the fresh sanctions imposed on Iran, the British chargé d'affaires in Tehran was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, September 3.

During the summoning, the Foreign Ministry expressed its strong condemnation of this action, which it said contradicts the new British government's claimed policies of engagement and cooperation.

The UK diplomat was also notified that it is widely acknowledged that the greatest source of insecurity in the region is the occupying Zionist regime, which is bolstered by the comprehensive political and military support from certain claimants of regional stability, including the UK.

The director of the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s third department of Western Europe stated that these countries' support for the genocide of Palestinians by the Israeli regime and their efforts to grant impunity to Netanyahu -a war criminal- are at the root of instability and insecurity in the region, the ministry’s website reported.

The UK chargé d'affaires promised to convey the message to his government in London.

On September 2, the UK Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation added three Iranian individuals and a unit of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Quds Force to the UK sanctions list.
