Coal Mine Blast Kills at Least 30 in Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – At least 30 miners have died and 17 others have been injured in an explosion at a coal mine in Iran’s eastern city of Tabas.

The accident, caused by a methane gas explosion in two blocks of the coal mine, happened on Saturday night.

The miners have died of suffocation, not because of the collapse of the mine.

A number of miners are believed to be trapped inside.

Before leaving Tehran for New York for the UN General Assembly meeting, President Masoud Pezeshkian ordered immediate efforts to save the miners and treat the injured.
