Iran Ready to Work with Turkey on Regional Security

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President Masoud Pezeshkian voiced Iran’s readiness for joint action with neighboring Turkey to ensure regional security.

In a meeting with his Turkish counterpart on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Monday, Pezeshkian said Iran is prepared to expand cooperation with Turkey in all fields, especially the promotion of regional security.

Referring to his proposal for the creation of a regional connection network, Pezeshkian said the precondition for such a mechanism is the arrangement of security conditions. “The materialization of this proposal requires a region free from terrorism.”

Stressing the need to strengthen unity and solidarity among the regional countries in order to contribute to the development of nations, the Iranian president said the establishment of a big joint market in the region as well as the academic, scientific and economic exchanges will exhibit the Muslim world’s greatness to the world.

He also stated that Islamic unity will prevent the Israeli crimes in Gaza.

For his part, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan denounced the Zionist regime’s atrocities as a new definition of barbarism and violence.

Describing the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza for over 11 months as a sign of the Zionist regime’s intention to spread the scope of tensions in the region, Erdogan said Israel will have to pay the price for its atrocities in the international courts sooner or later.

He also welcomed the idea of security cooperation between Turkey and Iran, noting that their economic cooperation, as in the energy sector, will serve the interests of the two neighbors.
