Minister Urges Connecting Russia’s Electricity Grid to Arab States via Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Minister of Energy Abbas Aliabadi suggested the connection of Russia’s power grid to Arab countries via Iran.

Speaking in the inaugural ceremony of the meeting of Energy Ministers of BRICS Member States in Moscow on the sidelines of the Russian Energy Week international forum, Iran’s energy minister described the entry of Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt and Ethiopia into the BRICS group of emerging economies as strategically important.

Considering the huge energy resources and the significant transit role of these countries in the political geography of the world, their entry can turn BRICS into a unique economic and political power, he emphasized.

Aliabadi pointed to the unique geo-economic situation of Iran, and said that the Russian power grid can be connected to the power grid of Arab countries through Iran, which will help to preserve the environment and increase energy security.

Russia’s minister of energy, who presided over the meeting, referred to developing cooperation between the member countries in the field of energy, deepening collaborations in technology and investment, and boosting the role of BRICS in the international energy system as the three priorities of BRICS during the Russian presidency.
