Iran Condemns Israeli Assault on Beirut
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson roundly condemned the Zionist regime’s “brutal and terrorist” aerial attacks that targeted a number of residential buildings in Beirut’s densely populated southern suburb of Dahiyeh on Friday.
Nasser Kanaani said in a statement that the barbaric attack, which was carried out with the bombs donated by the US to the rebellious Zionist regime, in addition to being a flagrant violation of international law as well as the sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security of Lebanon, was a brazen and undeniable war crime.
Without a doubt, the US regime, along with the Zionist regime, is an accomplice in this crime and must be held accountable, he said, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
The Iranian spokesman added that the continuation of the Zionist regime’s crimes against the people of Palestine and Lebanon clearly shows that calls for a ceasefire by the US and some Western countries are clearly a deceptive move meant to allow the Zionist regime to buy time and press ahead with its crimes against the people of Palestine and Lebanon.
Kanaani also said the escalation of the insane attacks by the Zionists against Palestine and Lebanon and the shameless killing of citizens and innocent people is the result of the inaction of the international community vis- -vis all these crimes and atrocities.
He described Friday’s Israeli attacks on Beirut as an indication of the depth of the Israeli criminal gang's hatred for the Lebanese resistance and their desperation and helplessness to face the brave forces of Hezbollah on the battlefield.
He referred to the shining history of the brave and heroic resistance and persistence of the Lebanese people and resistance against the Zionists and the humiliating expulsion of the invaders from southern Lebanon, as well as the defeat of the Zionists in the 33-day war.
Kanaani expressed confidence that the resistance and the Lebanese people will emerge victorious from this confrontation with the Zionist enemy and their honorable defense of the oppressed Palestinian people.
The Zionists will not be able to achieve their heinous and illegitimate goals by resorting to escalating their atrocities, he added.
The spokesman also reaffirmed Iran’s solidarity with Lebanon and once again stressed Tehran’s firm support for the Lebanese nation, government, and resistance.
