Qalibaf Meets Lebanese PM in Beirut, Visits Israeli-Destroyed Neighborhood
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf held a meeting with Prime Minister of Lebanon Najib Mikati before visiting a neighborhood in Beirut that has been ravaged in the Israeli airstrikes.
Qalibaf landed in Beirut on Saturday morning during a stopover on his way to Switzerland’s Geneva for the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The Iranian Parliament speaker held a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Mikati.
After the meeting, Qalibaf paid a visit to Basta neighborhood of Beirut, where a number of residential buildings had been destroyed in Israeli airstrikes 48 hours earlier.
Lebanon has been attacked 9,588 times by the Israeli army since October 2023, resulting in 2,229 deaths and 10,380 injuries in Lebanon alone, according to statistics released by the Lebanese government on Friday.
Qalibaf has described the purpose of his visit to Beirut as conveying the message of support from the Iranian people and officials to the Lebanese nation and resistance.
