Iranian President in Russia to Attend BRICS Summit

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in the Russian city of Kazan on Tuesday night to take part in the 16th BRICS summit.

Pezeshkian was welcomed by the head of Tatarstan Republic upon his arrival in Kazan.

He is scheduled to participate in the main meeting of the BRICS leaders, a meeting of the bloc’s member states and the first BRICS Plus session, to which he will deliver speeches.

The president will also hold talks with his counterparts from Russia and China as well as the Indian prime minister and other officials on the sidelines of the summit.

Speaking to reporters before leaving Tehran on Tuesday evening, Pezeshkian said his trip is of paramount importance as Iran is taking part in a BRICS summit as an official member for the first time.

BRICS is made up of the countries that aim to promote multilateralism in the world to control US unilateralism, and also aim to promote free trade among all countries across the world, President Pezeshkian explained.

He noted that agriculture, energy, industry, trade and tourism are among the existing fields on which BRICS member states can have cooperation and interaction, his official website reported.
