Hezbollah Confirms Martyrdom of Safieddine

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Lebanese Hezbollah announced on Wednesday that the head of the movement’s Executive Council Seyed Hashem Safieddine has been martyred in an Israeli airstrike.

“We pledge to our great martyr and his martyred brothers to continue the path of resistance and jihad until achieving its goals of freedom and victory,” Hezbollah said in a statement, according to Al Jazeera.

The announcement came a day after the Israeli regime said it had killed Safieddine in a strike earlier this month in Beirut’s southern suburbs, the AP reported.

Safieddine, a powerful cleric within the party ranks, had been expected to succeed Seyed Hassan Nasrallah, the movement’s secretary general and one of its founders, who was martyred in an Israeli airstrike on September 27.
