Iran Denounces Israel’s Deliberate Targeting of Journalists
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry censured the Israeli regime’s deliberate targeting of a journalists’ vehicle outside Al-Awda Hospital in the al-Nuseirat camp in central Gaza.
The attack resulted in the martyrdom of five journalists.
Esmaeil Baqaei labeled the attack as the latest example of war crimes committed by the Zionist regime.
He emphasized that journalists and media personnel working in conflict zones, along with their equipment, are considered civilians and civilian objects under international humanitarian law, particularly the Third Geneva Convention of 1949 and the Additional Protocols of 1977.
The spokesperson stressed that the attack on the journalists' vehicle by the occupying forces is undoubtedly a war crime, and the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) should add the new crime to the extensive file of crimes committed in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Baqaei highlighted that over 200 media personnel have been martyred during the 15 months of genocide in Gaza, stating that the killing of media personnel by the occupying regime aims to prevent global public awareness of the severity and extent of the crimes committed against the Palestinian people, the Iranian Foreign Ministry's website reported.
He warned that the continued and severe violations of international humanitarian law in Gaza, along with the lack of appropriate response from competent international bodies, seriously undermine the foundations and norms related to the laws of war.
