US Sending Contradictory Messages: Iranian Spokesman
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Denouncing the US’s contradictory messages to Iran, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said Washington regards negotiations as a political tool to exert pressure.
Asked about the possibility of negotiations between Iran and the US, Esmaeil Baqaei said at a press conference on Monday that the messages received from the US are contradictory.
He said the US claims to favor dialogue, but at the same time imposes sanctions against Iran and its oil minister, who is doing routine duties.
“Such measures do not match the US’ words. Diplomatic negotiations have rules,” the spokesman said.
Baqaei reminded the US that negotiations are based on the notion that mutual interests are two-way and that the parties should behave with mutual respect and honor their commitments.
The US has proved that it does not honor any commitments and considers talks as a mere political tool to exert pressure, he said.
In remarks on March 8, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said the goal of some bullying powers that insist on negotiations is not to resolve issues but to exert control and impose their own agendas.
“The insistence of some bully governments on negotiations is not aimed at resolving issues, but rather (aims) to assert and impose their own expectations,” the Leader said, adding, “Absolutely, the Islamic Republic will not accept their expectations.”
