Iran to Launch AI Research Center in Agricultural Sector: Deputy Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s deputy minister of agriculture on Sunday revealed the launch of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Center aimed at upgrading the Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute to Modern Agricultural Technologies Research Institute.

Head of Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO) Khayyam Nekouei termed AI as the most modern technology in today’s world and said the use of this modern technology in the agricultural sector, especially greenhouses, is effective and can increase productivity to a great extent.

Artificial intelligence is used in many fields to increase productivity and efficiency, the deputy minister of agriculture noted, adding that it helps farmers to have thorough knowledge through the data obtained about temperature, precipitation, wind speed and solar radiation.

In addition, artificial intelligence assists farmers in analyzing the data over time to achieve favorable results qualitatively and quantitatively, Khayyam Nekouei underlined.

It is hoped that the launch of the Artificial Intelligence Research Center will bring about considerable development in the future of the agricultural sector of the country, he emphasized.

The use of artificial intelligence will not only help the economy develop but also contribute to the preservation of the environment and increase economic independence, he added.
