Iran Forms Committee to Monitor JCPOA Implementation: VP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Spokesman for the Iranian administration and Vice-President Mohammad Baqer Nobakht announced on Tuesday that the government has established a committee to monitor the implementation of a recent nuclear accord finalized by Tehran and world powers.

The Committee to Monitor and Supervise Implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA – the text of the nuclear deal) has been established by the government, the Iranian vice-president said in a press conference held in the southwestern city of Ahvaz.

He also noted that if the other parties to the nuclear deal fail to fulfill their commitments, Iran would refuse to do its part.

Back on November 1, Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the Foreign Ministry would closely cooperate with the committee, saying any action regarding the JCPOA will be taken based on the decisions made by the committee.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei had ordered the formation of the committee on October 21.

The existence of complexities and ambiguities in the JCPOA and the possibility of breach of commitments and deception on the part of the other side, especially the US, necessitate that a strong, observant and smart committee be formed to monitor the progress of works, fulfilment of the other side’s commitments and realization of the observations mentioned, Ayatollah Khamenei stated in a letter to President Hassan Rouhani.

The committee’s arrangement and responsibilities should be formulated and approved by the SNSC, Imam Khamenei said at the time.
