Iranian Wrestlers Bag Six Medals at Baku Golden Grand Prix Final
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran Greco-Roman wrestling team claimed six medals at the Golden Grand Prix Final tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan on Sunday.
The Iranian wrestlers won a gold, two silver and three bronze medals.
Mehdi Zeidvand bagged a gold medal after defeating Azerbaijan’s Kamran Mamadov 2-0 in the 66kg.
In the 75kg, Payam Bouyeri lost to Kim Hyeon-Woo from South Korea 3-0 to bag a silver.
Mehdi Aliyari was also defeated against Shalva Gadabadze from Azerbaijan 1-0 in the 98kg final.
In the 75kg, Ramin Taheri defeated Atabek Azisbekov from Kyrgyzstan 4-2 and won a bronze medal.
Mojtaba Karimfar beat his compatriot Saman Azizi 3-1 in the 85kg in bronze medal match.
In 130kg, Behnam Mehdizadeh claimed Iran’s third bronze medal, beating Heiki Nabi from Estonia 2-0.
The international wrestling Gold Grand-Prix tournament commemorating Azerbaijan's national leader Heydar Aliyev started in Baku on Friday.
A total of more than 400 wrestlers from 32 countries competed in the Grand Prix.
The wrestlers participated in three categories as freestyle, women's and Greco-Roman events on November 27, 28 and 29 respectively.
