India Eager to Work with Iran on Renewable Energy
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Indian minister voiced her country’s enthusiasm for cooperation with Iran to develop joint projects on renewable energy resources, including solar energy.
Speaking to Tasnim, India’s Minister of Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi said New Delhi is keen to cooperate with Tehran for development of renewable energy plants in the two countries and in the region.
Hailing Iran and India as two leading countries in the Middle East and South Asia in development of the renewable and clean energies, Gandhi said the two countries can also extend their activities to other parts of the region.
The base is laid for cooperation between Iran and India in the new energy sector, and “we seek to make joint investment (with Iran) by assessing the potential opportunities in the territories of the two countries for the construction of solar farms,” she added.
In recent months, Iran has unveiled plans to diversify electricity generation from the plants that use renewable energy sources, such as wind or solar power.
In December 2015, an Iranian deputy energy minister said a host of foreign firms have shown enthusiasm for investment in Iran’s electricity and water industries, noting that regular meetings are underway to single out the most perfect from among them.
