Iran Eyes Joining Int’l LNG club: Official
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Managing director of National Iranian Gas Exports Company (NIGEC) Alireza Kameli said the country is taking steps to develop and construct natural gas liquefaction facilities in order to join the international LNG club in the near future.
Tehran is exploring several options to help the country “join the international LNG club,” Kameli told the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday.
He said Iran would restart work on the country’s most advanced LNG project, adding it could take another three to four years to complete the project.
According to the 64th Edition of the BP Statistical Review of World Energy released in June last year, Iran is the world's top gas reserves holder with 33.8 trillion cubic meters.
Iran exports natural gas to Turkey, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, and receives pipeline imports from Turkmenistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In 2011 and 2012, Iran accounted for less than 1 percent of global dry natural gas imports and exports, a small figure considering the country's vast reserves.
