TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Russia opened a tourism office in Tehran on Tuesday, hoping to attract Iranian tourists to Russian tourist destinations.

A ceremony was held at Russia’s embassy in Tehran to inaugurate the tourism office.

It was attended by Russian Ambassador to Iran Levan Dzhagaryan, Head of the Russian Government’s Federal Agency for Tourism Oleg Safonov, Chairman of the State Committee on Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan Sergey Ivanov, and Dagestan’s Minister of Tourism Magomed Isayev.

Deputy Head of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) Morteza Rahmani Movahhed and Spain’s ambassador to Tehran were also present in the ceremony.

The Russian envoy said in the ceremony that the opening of the office will promote cooperation between Iran and Russia, which he described as two friends.

He also expressed the hope that it would encourage tourists traveling to Russia to choose more destinations than just Sochi, Saint Petersburg and Moscow.
