Iran’s Security Forces Smash Major Medicine Smuggling Ring

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian intelligence forces managed to dismantle a criminal gang involved in importing contraband medicines to the country, the intelligence ministry announced on Monday.

Following intelligence operations in East Azarbaijan Province in northwestern Iran and here in the capital over the past month, the intelligence forces identified and disbanded the major smuggling ring which had plotted to import 5.7 tons of contraband medicines produced in an Asian country, according to the official website of the intelligence ministry.

The medicines imported in a cargo of blankets and were planned to be transported to Aras Free Zone’s customs in transit.

The smugglers managed to get the medicines out of Tehran’s customs through forging documents and bribing customs officers but the cargo was seized when they attempted to send it to Aras Free Zone.
