Iran Sets Up 1st Cloud Data Center
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian private sector company launched the country’s first-ever cloud data center, partly funded by the government.
The cloud data center was inaugurated in a ceremony in Tehran, attended by Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi.
The project has cost around $13 million and taken three years to complete. The administration has funded nearly $5 million in the project, known as an essential part of the country’s national information network.
Once integrated into the nationwide data network, the cloud data center will help to further protect the privacy of Iranian users and provide storage and network services on the basis of an indigenous data center host that will consequently reduce the costs and improve the quality of Internet access.
Given the administration’s plans to boost electronic trading and Internet-based services, the new cloud data center will promote digital businesses.
A cloud data center provides services over the Internet. Though cloud services are the same thing as Web services, the term cloud has been more commonly used as cloud computing has become more common.
Cloud computing and storage solutions provide users and enterprises with various capabilities to store and process their data in third-party data centers.
