Oil Minister: Iran Focusing on LNG Exports to Europe

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran has concentrated mainly on liquefied natural gas (LNG) in its plans for gas exports to Europe, Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh announced.

The Oil Ministry’s plans are rather focused on LNG when it comes to the export of gas to the European countries, Zanganeh said Friday, noting that the plans will be formulated with an eye to that target.

The announcement comes after reports of practical steps to begin Iranian gas exports to Europe.

Back in July, managing director of National Iranian Gas Exports Company (NIGEC), Alireza Kameli, said a project on exporting Iranian gas to Georgia will be finalized within a few months.

He said Iran is going to export gas to Georgia through a supply station at a border village used for delivering gas to Armenia.

In the same month, First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri highlighted Iran’s capability to meet part of Europe’s energy needs.

“Given our potentials, we can meet part of Europe’s energy needs,” Jahangiri said at a meeting with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in Tehran.
