Mehdi Mahdavi Announces Retirement from Iran's National Volleyball Team

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian national volleyball team's setter Mehdi Mahdavi announced his retirement from the team aiming to give more chances to younger players.

Mahdavi participated in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, where the Iranian team finished in sixth place.

The 32-year-old player started his playing career in 2004 in Bargh Tehran and has played for Iranian teams namely, Gol Gohar Sirjan, Shahrdari Hamedan, Saipa Tehran, Barij Kashan, Mizan Khorasan and Sarmayeh Bank Tehran.

Mahdavi has won two Asian Championship titles with Iran national team and has also claimed the 2014 Asian Games title with Team Melli.

Shahram Mahmoudi has also announced he will retire from the national team.
