Iran, India to Decide on Development of Chabahar Port Soon
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran and India agreed to take a decision on development of Chabahar port, southeast of Iran, by March-end, media reports said Saturday.
The issue was raised during the meeting of Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif, official sources said.
The sources added that Khurshid and Zarif met and "Indian interest in Chabahar port figured prominently during the meeting between them and it was agreed that specific proposals on the port could be finalised by Nouroz holidays in Iran (starts on March 21)."
The two sides also reviewed all-out expanse of the bilateral relationship and emphasised the strong political will in both countries to nurture bilateral relations, Zeenews reported.
"There was an understanding that huge opportunities exist to enhance the relationship. Connectivity was a major issue of discussion including the International North South Transport Corridor, which will enable reduction in travel time by 40 per cent for freight between India, Afghanistan, Central Asia and Russia via Iran," official sources said.
